MicroStructure Materials Testing
Microstructure materials testing is the science of interpretation of material structures. By sectioning, polishing and then etching the surface of a material, our materials scientists use optical microscopes to interpret the microstructure of the material being examined.
The scanning electron microscope (SEM) combined with the energy dispersive x-ray (EDX) analyzer is a powerful tool for high magnification examination and elemental characterization.
Using standard techniques, materials characteristics such as the heat treatment condition, case depth, grain size and grain flow can be measured.
These microstructural materials testing techniques are also applied to composite materials as well.
